Young Pride in Herts is a new group based in East Herts and Broxbourne, where young people between 13 -25, can meet, socialise and share experiences. The group has been set up by and for young lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning people in the area as there is little or no support in Hertfordshire.
However our members are joining us from all over Hertfordshire and surrounding area including Enfield and London. We are looking at plans to set up other groups around Hertfordshire so that people can get to local events more easily as transport can be an issue.
We keep in contact with our members by a private social network site called Ning so if you are unable to attend meetings you can still get involved.

Celebrating ‘LGBT History Month’
On Saturday 6th March, Young Pride in Herts held its first event, a Quiz Night to celebrate LGBT History Month. The Quiz took place in Hoddesdon. The evening was a great success with over 40 people attending. The group raised £80 and decided to share the proceeds between the group itself and Watford and District YMCA to put towards a mini bus. |

Five teams took part on the night which was supported by Hertfordshire vinvolved team, members from Keystones (Hertfordshire Police LGBT Group) and friends. It was a fun, informal evening, with questions designed around a LGBT theme; challenging, but answerable. The aim of the event was to publicize the existence of the group and to recruit more members. Two new people have been recruited to help organise the next event, which is brilliant. Would you believe the winners were the Village People with 133 points!

On Saturday 3rd July 2010, the group took part in its first London Pride march. A new logo had been designed by the group to use to promote Young Pride in Herts. We met up at London Liverpool Street Train Station and made our way to Baker Street wearing our new Young Pride in Herts t-shirts and carrying our home made banner!
What a great day! The weather was definitely on our side. It was great to see so many organisations marching and also to see all of Oxford Street and
Regent Street filled with supporters cheering, dancing along to music and really enjoying themselves. It was an amazing experience and a great way for us to promote the group in a “chilled out” friendly atmosphere.

Young Pride in Herts planned a social picnic on Sunday 1st August 2010 in
Hartham Common, Hertford. The event was a great time to chill out and play a new card game that got everyone involved—what was it again? New people turned up from as far away as London and had a good time—there was even some event on at Hartham that we could join in for free. The bungee running was a laugh. So weather well—might do that again—next summer—if we have one!
Young Pride in Herts are looking to set up a new LGBT youth group in the Watford so we are holding two open sessions on Tuesday 28th September 2010 at 4.30pm and 7pm, venue TBA.
We are looking for people who are interested in joining the group and those who might be interested in helping to organise some of the events—if you deicide that’s what you want. Really that’s up to you so. Come and find out what’s been going on in the Cheshunt area and where we are at. We want to hear your ideas and we’ll help get it off the ground, it’s a great way to meet other LGBT young people living in the area.
We are looking to contact all Secondary Schools in the county to make them aware of the Stonewall ‘Fit’ DVD which has been sent to them. We are hoping that we can encourage schools to use the DVD as a session as it raises the issue of Homophobic Bullying in schools and publicise our group and support it can offer to young people. We are also planning have our own showing of the film and a discussion of the issues it raises.
Due to the success for the Quiz at the beginning of the year, Young Pride in Herts would like to make it a regular fundraising event. So watch this space for the event in October.
We are intending to have regular meetings on a set day each month with a planned calendar of social and issues based evenings for example, speakers from organisations, films and positive activities.
If you have any ideas for events, programme activities, issues or would like more information please contact us youngprideinherts@hotmail.co.uk or ring/text 07968 012987 or join our Facebook page.
